F.A.Q.

Why heirlooms?
For starters, they taste better! Furthermore, these tasty foods are one of the world's most precious natural resources- no kidding! Unlike their conventional, lab-cloned GMO counterparts, these seeds carry a wealth of natural gene variations, known collectively as "biodiversity," that allow the plants to naturally adapt to their environment. Over the last century, conventional agriculture has driven most of them to extinction and many of the remaining heirlooms are dangerously close to being lost forever. By supporting organizations that promote heirloom seeds, we're being good stewards AND enjoying the same delicious foods that our ancestors did- win, win!

*While we strive to offer as many heirlooms as possible, their rarity can make some varieties difficult to find. We may occasionally use hybrid seeds for some vegetables- though never GMOs! If used, hybrid varieties will be noted on the "What to Expect" page.

How many veggies are in a "share"?
A full share will average 1 bushel per week and a half share 1/2 a bushel per week, with the very beginning and very end of the season being a little lighter. We promise that, by the end of the season, you will have received your money's worth! What's in the box depends on what's ready to be harvested that week. We will do our best to ensure the greatest variety possible and aim for at least 6 different kinds of vegetable, fruit, and/or herbs each week- there will often be 10 or more! Keep in mind that many factors (precipitation, temperature, pests, etc) can influence the harvest. This is why we plant so many different types, so that if one vegetable does poorly there are several others to take up the slack.

What if I can't/won't eat something?
We understand that food is a very personal thing and that allergies and aversions are going to happen. Please, don't feel obligated to take something home that you won't eat! We'll happily swap out the offender for something else.

What if I miss a week?
Life happens. If you know that you will not be able to pick up your share, give us a call. We'll work something out. You may have someone pick it up for you, or receive a double share on another week. (Please allow 24hr notice before picking up a double share, so we can harvest enough for your extra box!)

Can I come visit the farm?
Absolutely! Just give us a call before you drop by. We welcome the opportunity to get our shareholders involved, whether you just want to see what's going on or are in the mood to pull some weeds. :)

Can I buy bulk quantities?
If there's something you'd like to purchase by the bushel for canning or freezing, we may be able to accommodate you. If you let us know at the beginning of the season, we can be sure to plant extra. If you didn't plan that far in advance, you can still ask! Depending on the harvest at that point, there's a good chance that we can work something out.
