What is CSA?

CSA stands for Community-Supported Agriculture. It is a partnership between the farmer and the consumer, in which both enjoy the benefits (good harvest) and the risks (drought, hail, poor germination, etc) of farming.

A CSA farmer offers a certain number of yearly "shares" of their anticipated harvest, which are purchased in advance. Those who purchase a CSA membership, the "shareholders," then receive their portion of the harvest throughout the season.

This ingenious arrangement allows farmers to purchase supplies and repair equipment before the season begins, freeing them to focus on what's really important- growing food! In return, CSA shareholders receive the freshest food available, help support sustainable local business, and have a face-to-face relationship with the person behind their food... all for less than the price of shopping at the farmer's market!
